Natural pest/mice control?? MN is starting to get cold, so here come the mice! I haven't found this season's entry point to plug up yet, so need a non-toxic deterrent. My son said his car restoration books advise putting cubes of Irish Spring out, as the scent is so strong mice won't come around. Is this true? If not, what else? We were using live traps for several years, but many of the little buggers are now figuring out how to escape them!

What are some natural pest controls/repellents? Okay, so after we've cleaned house, what are some natural ways to control the pests that have decided to invade? Our biggest problems are German roaches and mice. We've tried bug spray, boric acid, and glue traps. I really hate spraying chemicals in the house, and the glue traps just make me feel awful when you hear the mice squeaking, so I want to try some natural repellents. I've heard that cucumbers will repel roaches, but I tried it and it didn't really work. I've also heard that catnip will get rid of cockroaches, but what affect does it have on the mice? If mice are attracted to it like cats are, we may have eliminated one problem but made another grow. Anyone who lives in an old house and by the woods/forest knows how hard it is to keep bugs out (especially when it rains). I not only want to get rid of the ones we have, but I want to repel any from wanting to enter the house. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Can anybody tell me the difference between natural control and biological control of pests? Hi there! I want to know the difference between natural control and biological control of pests (in agriculture), not including chemical control. As far as I think, natural and biological control are the same...but there is obviously some difference. Can anybody tell me that please....?? Just tell me how they are different and how to distinguish between them...I'd appreciate if you answer me in a tabular form (in the form of points) as it'd be easier for me to understand! Thanks :-)

What is the most effective natural method of repelling mice & keeping them out of your house? I moved into a house last year that is surrounded by a combination of woods & a cow pasture. I keep a VERY clean house but I've still had problems with mice. Now I've just ordered some really expensive Mission furniture that will be on the lower/first level of the house where the mice have been most prevalent. I saw an ad more than a year ago on one of those shopping networks (QVC or HSN) for a book on natural pest control & related natural remedies. The problem is that I can't remember the title of the book. Can someone recommend anything other than conventional spring or glue traps for catching mice? Ideally, I want to repel them and keep them out of the house completely. I'm afraid that they could do serious damage to either the leather upholstery or the solid wood frames of my furniture. All suggestions are welcome.
Hobo Spider Pest Control? I live in Montana and we have hobo spiders and brown recluses, and they are aggressive (chase you, fast!) and their bite can send you to the ER. Anybody know any (natural, preferably) solutions to preventing them from getting into my home AND killing the ones that are already there? Are large cockroaches and palmetto bugs a common pest in upstate South Carolina? I grew up in Florida and am fully aware that palmetto bugs and the larger cockroaches are a part of life there, despite how much you clean. I am moving to upstate South Carolina, outside of Greenville to be exact, and have been told by my landlord that I won't need a pest control company. It's a necessity in Florida, so it's natural that I was curious. I am hoping someone will confirm or correct this statement. Basically I was told that the only roaches I will see in upstate South Carolina are the smaller, german ones that are brought in by dirty conditions. Is this true?
Where can I buy/get organic compost in Massachusetts? I am in south shore MA and would like to find a place to buy organic gardening supplies. I am interested in compost, fertilizer, natural pest/disease control, organic seeds etc.
For anyone with pest control advice/experience - earwigs? For anyone out there with experience in pest control: For whatever reason, I have a problem in my townhome with earwigs. I live in Mesa, Arizona, and these are probably the critters I have the most problem with, seem impervious to pest control (using Ortho myself, Truly Nolen service, etc.), keep coming back, and seem to be proliferating. Anybody have any clues as to how to control/eliminate them; which other insect/animal in nature is their natural enemy; and why they would keep coming back even after several pesticide treatments? I have several glue traps set up around the house to kind of get a "feel" for the traffic flow of various insect pests; where they're at, where they're going and coming from, etc. Earwigs are the largest contingent of pests by far (just a few spiders, and then crickets here in the summer/fall period). Right now, it's earwigs "gone wild..." Thanks! Dave in Arizona
Can I refuse the pest control spraying for my building? ok you may be wondering WHY, I would want to refuse the pest control treatment my apt complex is doing, WELL. I am sensitive. I have a young child. I have a pet. They are spraying a CHEMICAL, that KILLS insects. I also live in the mountains. I've never really had any problems with bugs in the unit. I just don't trust our government to properly regulate the chemicals that the industry uses. I rather just keep my apt clean, use Natural resources and means to accomplish the same effect. yes one day maybe I can own my own home, but until then this mom doesn't want to take the risk. Can I tell them to please not spray my apt, that I will purchase a natural product and use that? I'm not asking them to allow the unit to go without pest control, simply that I can purchase and utilize a natural pest spray. I'm actually surprised more people are not concerned about these harmful chemicals being used in their apartments and homes, and yes in a dream world, I could afford a house, maybe even buy a condo in a eco community, like my friends down the street... where they have an amazing natural heat systems, solar panels for electricity and a beautiful organic community garden, no pest control spray.. and no pest problems! hmmm...
Help i have an animal in my room? Beneficial Nematode Pest Control? Has anyone had any luck with beneficial nematodes killing off fleas and garden pests? Pest control queston? I have tons of ladybugs in my house and they are getting out of control. I'm not sure I want to kill them, but what would you suggest I do to get rid of them? Is there any repellant (synthetic or natural) to deter spiders from entering your house? I am extremely fearful of spiders. I have tried to get past my fears but I can't, the only spiders I tolerate are daddy long legs, and anything else literally terrifies me. If I see a spider I either throw a book at it to smush it (sorry, I cannot stand them) or I vacuum it up, but I'll end up staying awake all night with the lights on because I am so frightened of them. I don't care where they live outside, but when they get in my house I just freak out so I was wondering, is there any sort of repellant, either a chemical spray or something existing in nature that wouldn't be toxic that spiders hate and that would keep them away? I know this sounds a bit hysterical, but I have a phobia of them and I just would feel safer if I could keep them out. I know very little about pest control so I don't know if there is any sort of spray available or not. Any ideas on what I can do to keep them out of my home? Or at least to try to keep them out? Thanks. :)

What could be causing the leaves on my peach tree to curl up with a "scrunchy" appearance? Back in 1985 or so, my grandfather planted a peach tree in our backyard. In the past few seasons, I noticed that the amount of fruit significantly diminished once the leaves on the tree took on a scrunchy, curled up like appearance. I think there were some black aphids on the leaves... could that be the sole cause of the problem. What's the best spray to use? As for natural pest control, do ants work better than ladybugs? I noticed that the ants and yellow jackets are at it every year on ALL our trees, eating the aphids. Somehow though, the aphids get SOME damage done. Is there a way to eliminate these aphids for good, before they have a chance to hurt the trees?

What is a good, inexpensive way to get rid of fleas in my house? I pay a monthly pest control service to spray the interior and exterior for fleas and other pests but this year it has not worked. The fleas reappear after a day or two. I did a search for this question but there were not many answers about seven-dust and other natural flea killers. This house is very old and there are lots of crevices where the fleas can hide. We cannot afford to move until at least the spring of next year (we live in South Mississippi). Help!
Is there any sort of cost-effective way to prevent house centipedes that is safe for pets? Last summer I was seeing about 1 per day in my condo. It helped a little when I sprayed the edges of the rooms with natural Raid, but I am looking for something stronger. My landlord has not been cooperative with hiring an outside pest control company, and I refuse to pay for it on my own. I have a 6-lb chihuahua so I need something that will not be harmful to her.

Is the Massive Bat Die-Off a good thing? Why are Gods creatures the ones that could cause a world wide famine? . Massive Bat Die-Off Continues, Spreads..... By Martin Laine. A mysterious disease decimating bat populations throughout the northeast has now spread as far south as Tennessee and, for the first time, has been found in Canada. There is neither a known cause nor cure, and the plague threatens to extirpate the region’s most common species, the little brown bat, and other species are beginning to be affected as well. Meanwhile, ecologists are bracing themselves wondering what the effect of the sudden loss of a major insectivore will be on the region’s ecosystem. Read more: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/290963#ixzz1A6N25ao7s, Spreads Bats are a key natural pest control for our country’s crops. The annual value of local bats in a handful of counties in Texas was found to be $740,000 in 2006 because of their pest control services. That equaled about 29% of the local cotton crop. Like honey bees (also suffering a massive die-off), bats are also important for pollination and spreading of seeds. In Arizon, bats are the main pollinators of three large cactus species that are critical to the region’s ecosystem. These bats are maybe highly invisible to people and even scary to many, but they are also critical to the ecosystems we live in and live off of. . ◘ Trawler.... A Caulerpa alga closely related to the Caulerpa taxifolia species was cloned and cultured for display at the Stuttgart Aquarium in Germany, and this cloned alga was then shared with aquariums in France and Monaco. Sometime in 1984 this Caulerpa either escaped or was accidentally released into Mediterranean waters and quickly began spreading, and since that time has continued to spread rapidly throughout the Mediterranean region as well the rest of the world. ◘
Can i buy over the counter poison or baits for white ants (termites)? We have a large dead tuart close to our house that has been dead for several years and the termites are doing their natural thing -eating it.But the colony is becoming quite large and i am wondering if anyone knows if we can buy a product over the counter to bait them. It is crazy that we can buy poisons to kill all other pests and insects but not white ants. And pest control busineses are getting a joke with their prices.

What are the benefits of acid rain? I was reading about acid rain on How Stuff Works and apparently it can be caused by some natural phenomenons (volcanic eruptions, forest fires, lightning...) I was wondering if there could be any benefits to acid rain, perhaps lowering the pH of soil since alkaline soil isn't very fertile, pest population control...? Any suggestions? I can't find an answer to this anywhere else. Any theories?

Organic Flea Control? I'm looking for natural ways to control fleas on my cats. I've always used Revolution, which works wonders, but they're indoor cats and fleas haven't been a very big problem lately (not a problem at all, really, but since it's summer and you never know what comes inside on your shoes...). Can anyone suggest some SAFE, natural/organic ways to control fleas and other pests? I'm working with indoor cats here, so unfortunately outdoor solutions, like diatom. earth doesn't help so much. Also, I went to veterinary technician school, so I know all about the usual array of chemicals...I'm looking for something natural to better come in line with the organic and natural lifestyle I'm trying to live.
Gun laws in the UK? They are strict at the moment, fair enough- but does some study need to be made in the different use of guns in rural and urban areas? Where I am from guns are everwhere (shotguns and rifles that is, not handguns). We use them for pest control, to get food, and target sports as well as natural poluation control. Kids as young as 8 are taught to use them responsibly. Does some distinction need to be made between deepest, darkest Devon and inner-city Birmingham in the law?
How do I get ppl to understand my product is not a service? I have a new small business called Wondercide. It is Natural, Chemical Free, Organic, Pest Control for pets, people & property. Because its chemical free pesticide...and no one seems to understand that, I need to get the message across that 1.)Pesticides are toxic. This includes spot drop flea control for dogs, Deet sprays like Off for people, all the crap people spray around the house. 2.)Pest control companies say that they use safe products, but the EPA regulates them and has hundreds of reports of toxicity. In fact the US is one of the only countries that still allow the sale of pesticides. Most of them are scheduled to come off of the shelves in 2010. So, how do I best state what my product does, what it is, how it works in just a few words (for marketing pieces). You can view my site to see the taglines and phrases we have already applied for TM and are in use. http://www.Wondercide.com Also, I find that some people, though Eco-sensitive, don't want Do-It-Yourself products, especially when it comes to bugs. Any suggestions? I welcome any feedback.

10 points!! someone plz EDIT this for me.. ? 10 points!! someone plz EDIT this for me.. ? can someone plz edit these points and make them into a paragraph? i will give you 10 ppoints!! PLLZZ?? Alternatives to pesticides Alternatives to pesticides are available, and are generally better and less harmful to both humans and the environment in the long run. One of the most common alternatives to pesticides is Organic farming. An Organic farming system uses natural pesticides for pest management without using synthetic pesticides. Another alternative to pesticides is Biological pest controls. These are other organisms that are used to control insects, diseases, or weeds. For example using the flea battle to control certain weeds. This type of pest control is being used more now in green house productions here in Canada. Other alternatives include: Mechanical pest control- Controlling weeds using mechanical tools to turn and mix soils. Cultivation practices that include-polyculture( growing multiple types of plants. Or crop rotation, planting crops in areas where the pests that damage them do not live. Intercropping- witch is growing more than one type of crop in a field at a time to help reduce the chance for pests such as weeds to invade. Using pest tolerant crops- using plants that are not easily affected by pests. And suing natural pesticides- Pesticides that are made by other organisms such as plants with insecticide properties ( for their own protection) Another alternative to pesticides is the thermal treatment of soil through stream. Soil steaming kills pests and increases soil health. These methods are becoming increasingly popular and often are safer than traditional chemical pesticides.

What is the name given to...? using natural methods to control pests e.g. ladybirds for aphids There is a specific term but I can't think of it
is a contained, man made, natural ecosystem possible in a greenhouse? Weird question probably but i have always had an obsession with creating my own jungle style greenhouse, koi pond included and possible semi free range guinea pig included. I have worked out more or less the cost and design of the green house. now comes the next part, the problems, mildew, rot, mold, rats and of course the dreaded insects. Ventilation should solve most of the problems with a little added care. but what about the insects, in a contained enviroment it might make it harder for the bugs to get in, but when they are it will be harder (and less inclined) to get out again. so obviously i will have to invest in some ladybirds or similar predators. what i am wondering is if it would be possible to put in only one population of ladybirds that will maintain a constant population and will control the pest problem that will not all fly off should i open the door to cool the greenhouse. I would like the greenhouse to run itself really, i would only have to intervene to do the odd bit of weeding and trimming. has anyone managed this? any thoughts welcome. Also the guinea pigs was an after thought as i think (providing the small vunurable parts of the plants are out of reach) it would have a fun time in a large run (big greenhouse) adding some fertilizer and possibly help out with the weeds. do people think this could be a good idea?
how safe is insect killer ,to humans ,on garden vegetables? i grow herbs and veg.in pots ,the stuff i got to control things from eating them kills a variety of pests .it says not to pick edible plants for 2 weeks after treatment. given that the remaining stuff is still in the ground ,wouldn't the plants absorb it? or does it leach away? active constituent:40g/Kg chlorpyrifos (an anticholinesterase compound) is there a natural way of keeping pests at bay?

More roach questions.? How can I get roaches out of electronics such as televisions, my personal computer, the key board too,(my key board is older so I can't open it much). How do I keep them out ? I don't want to cover them I don't want them to over heat.. I know these dang things Love electronics, hidding in them, feeding, mating, etc. It's driving me,"buggy" for sure.. I couldn't resist. Professional pest control secrets would really help here.. I know I can't buy your pro products, so what's the next choise here? Do it your self pest control products, what works really good? I am getting a professional pest control service finally, but I'd sure like a Good head start.. It will be a few weeks before I can afford this.. I am very low income.. I'm not the only one out here in this boat I am sure. My roaches laugh at borex acid. What other dusts can I use, baits and gels too, what works best ? More natural the better.. Help again.. Thanks..
What is ''organic farming''? for italian translation? What is ‘’organic farming’’? The most common of ‘’organic farming’’ is farming withouth chemicals’’.This definition is not stricly true as it doesn’t give the whole pictures. As a matter of fact, all living or dead things are made up of chemical compounds. Therefore organic farming does use chemicals, though naturally derived,in plant protection, fertilizing and livestock husbandry. However,it is a system which tries to avoid the routine use of chemicals and to exploit natural renewable resources. The principles of organic farming are expressed in the following document of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement(IFOAM): -to produce food of high nutritional quality in sufficient quantity; -to work with natural systems rather than seeking to dominate them: -to encourage and enhance biological cycles within the farming system, involving microorganisms, soil flora and fauna, plants and animals; -to maintain and increase the long-term fertility of soils; -to use,as far as possible, renewable resources in locally organized agricultural systems; -to work as much as possible within a closed system with regard to organic matter and nutrient elements; -to give all livestock conditions of life that allow them to perform all aspects of their innate behaviour; -to avoid all forms of pollution that may result from agricultural techniques; -to maintain the genetic diversity of the agricultural system and its surroundings, including the protection of plant and wildilife habitats; - to allow agricultural producers an adequate return and satisfaction from their work including a safe working environment; -to consider the wider social and ecological impact of the farming system. These principles are the bais for day-to-day farming practices for organic farmers all over the world. The United States Department of Agriculture has given the following definitions of organic farming: Organic farming is a production system which avoids or largely excludes the use of synthetically compounded fertilisers, pesticides, growth regulators and livestock feed additives. To the maximum extent feasible, animal manures, legumes, green manures,off-farm organic wastes, and aspects of biological pest control to maintain soil productivity and tilth,to supply plant nutrients and to control insects, weeds and other pests. From the above definitions it is evident that organic farming has the aim of protecting the fertility of the soil, relying on crop rotations, and organic manures, controlling weeds, diseases and pets, using natural predators and disease resistant varieties;recycling organic material including crop residues and livestock wastes;producing nutrirional, healthy and high quality food. Many farmers are converting from conventional to organic farming s they begin to be aware of the fragility of the earth’s environment, the pollution from pesticides and fertilizers, and the toxic residues in food.
Flea bites? I have been out of my home for about a week or so because of flea infestion...i have bombed the house (which i hate) 3 times, and sprayed around the the perimeter twice, vacuumed before and after pest control treatments... What can i do to solve the flea problem, I have carpet in 3 rooms and that is where the fleas seem to nest. I know fleas can live for awhile without a blood source and reproduce at spastic rates....are there any ways to completly rid my house of these horrible little monsters FOR GOOD??!! I also have numerous flea bites, are there any treatments that i can put on the bites, anything all natural...?? thank you all! <3luddie
Pet Food Info? As you have probably heard – there is a major pet food recall taking place. Many leading pet foods have been affected and several pets have died as featured in this recent news article http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17650075/from/ET/ Find your pets food and treats and see if wheat, corn, or by-products are listed in the ingredients. If so, discard the products immediately. Dog foods currently being recalled: America's Choice; Preferred Pets; Authority; Award; Best Choice; Big Bet; Big Red; Bloom; Bruiser; Cadillac; Companion; Demoulas Market Basket; Fine Feline Cat; Shep Dog; Food Lion; Giant Companion; Great Choice; Hannaford; Hill Country Fare; Hy-Vee; Key Food; Laura Lynn; Loving Meals; Main Choice; Mixables; Nutriplan; Nutro Max; Nutro Natural Choice; Nutro; Ol'Roy; Paws; Pet Essentials; Pet Pride; President's Choice; Price Chopper; Priority; Publix; Roche Bros; Save-A-Lot; Schnucks; Springsfield Pride; Sprout; Stater Bros; Total Pet; My True Friend; Western Family; White Rose; Winn Dixie and Your Pet. Did you know that the FDA does not regulate the pet food industry? Did you also know that most commercial pet foods are made from less than human quality ingredients. Did you know that most pet foods bought in the store have been sitting around for as long as 18 months before you buy it? Did you know that dogs and cats have the genetic potential to live 20 - 25 years but we are robbing those years from their lives with cheap pet foods. Here are just a few of the procedures that we follow to provide your pet with a safe and nutritious product. I have found a great alternative to all the brands carried in all the local stores. I have recently switched my dog over to this food and have seen a great improvement the last month or so. The food is Life’s Abundance. This is some of the information I can provide for the food. You can read and hear more about it at http://www.HealthyPetFoodBiz.com All the products are manufactured in a USDA facility. All of the ingredients are individually inspected for human quality and carry the APHIS certification (a European standard for human quality ingredients) Every vendor must supply an 'assurance statement' with each shipment. This statement must provide nutritional quality of ingredient provided AND must state it is free from any mold, bacteria, and so forth. Dr. Jane has the ingredients tested AGAIN before manufacturing to make sure the quality is as stated AND it meets her standards The product is tested 3 times during the manufacturing process - to again assure everything is 'as it should be'. The product is tested again after manufacturing and again when it arrives at the warehouse. One bag of food is kept at the warehouse - from each batch - to test in case a Customer has a problem or concern with the product. Each 'one bag' from each batch is kept for 1 full year. The products are shipped directly from HealthyPetNet's warehouse to the Customer - no middleman warehousing (concerns of proper storage and pest control).
Another lesson for christians on "theory"..? The word theory, in the context of science, does not imply uncertainty. It means "a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena" (Barnhart 1948). In the case of the theory of evolution, the following are some of the phenomena involved. All are facts: Life appeared on earth more than two billion years ago; Life forms have changed and diversified over life's history; Species are related via common descent from one or a few common ancestors; Natural selection is a significant factor affecting how species change. Many other facts are explained by the theory of evolution as well. The theory of evolution has proved itself in practice. It has useful applications in epidemiology, pest control, drug discovery, and other areas (Bull and Wichman 2001; Eisen and Wu 2002; Searls 2003). Besides the theory, there is the fact of evolution, the observation that life has changed greatly over time. The fact of evolution was recognized even before Darwin's theory. The theory of evolution explains the fact. If "only a theory" were a real objection, creationists would also be issuing disclaimers complaining about the theory of gravity, atomic theory, the germ theory of disease, and the theory of limits (on which calculus is based). The theory of evolution is no less valid than any of these. Even the theory of gravity still receives serious challenges (Milgrom 2002). Yet the phenomenon of gravity, like evolution, is still a fact. Creationism is neither theory nor fact; it is, at best, only an opinion. Since it explains nothing, it is scientifically useless.
Need ideas on eliminating ticks from outside around house? This year is turning into a nightmare for finding ticks on our dog and sometimes on us. Every day my husband has to check the dog for ticks and usually finds one or two. He has even found a couple on himself and one day I found one in my hair after I had bent down to pet the dog. We do live next door to a quarry that is wooded, but we've lived here 20 years and have never had this bad a problem before. What is the most effective and relatively safe method to eliminate the ticks from the yard. Is it better to call a pest control company? What kind of chemicals would they use? Is there a more natural method that would work just as good to get rid of them, but that might be less toxic for us? It's only the middle of May - I'm already dreading the summer months, unless we can do something about these little blood sucking vermin!

I Could Use Some Help ASAP!!!? My building is being fumigated today and i have said no to the spray as i would have to leave for 4hrs and given i live in a small hick town with not much to do and i don't drive i wouldn't have anywhere really to go for 4hrs. They have opted to use a paste for pest control but they have to put it in places where my 4yr old could get it on his hands and then ingest it. We have been told that if we refuse this our tenancy will be terminated immediately, so we are looking for something natural. Is there something natural i could use to kill roaches, spiders and ants? I really don't like the idea of using chemical pesticides in my home for any reason, i believe that all bugs even roaches have a purpose, what that purpose is i don't know but i would rather not kill a bug with something chemical. I am also 6months pregnant and the fear i may not be thinking and get this paste on my hands and ingest it concerns me a lot. Any suggestions on what i can get that is natural and not chemical to the first answerer i have spoken with the pest control guy and he says given i am pregnant i would have to leave for about 8hrs and i have no family near me and EVERYONE has bugs whether they see them or not and i did not bring them to my place they were already here in another apartment and they are trying to prevent an outbreak or infestation. most of you people don't even know it but those chemical pesticides, liquid or paste form are worse for your health than the actual bugs themselves.
Soul-mate Survey: Do you believe you can have more then one soul-mate? Let me add that I believe a soul mate is both something natural and also it needs to be worked at by both people. Much like wild crops, they may thrive on their own, but if in a farm, they grow and thrive like no ones business because of tender care. (fertilizing, water, planting times, pest control, etc). So I believe we can have more then one soul mate and it is partly natural, but also needs to be worked on. It is fertilized with romance, love, respect, laughter, a warm heart and so on. I want to see if others feel as I do, or if you disagree, please feel free to say so. In other words, just state your honest opinion. Thanks for taking part.
What do you think causes early puberty? After asking a question about this, i'm curious about it.. I've came up with these things so far that "may" cause it! I've heard of all of these possible causes except for the "media factor"...I've never actually "heard" of soy based formula causing it, but I do know that soy has a type of estrogen in it, and that some women use it to off set symptoms of menopause.. I also had a friend who was taking it because she was diabetic, and it make her endometriosis worse because of the estrogen in it.. What are your thoughts on this? Possible Causes of Early Puberty Note to parents: because early puberty can be caused by some serious conditions, including certain types of brain tumors and thyroid diseases, it is important to consult a doctor if you are concerned about your daughter's development, especially if you have no family history of early puberty. Genetic factors. If a girl's mother, sisters, and other female relatives experienced early puberty, the chances are very strong she will too. Obesity. As the rate of childhood obesity has exploded, so has the rate of precocious puberty. This is one of the most widely accepted theories about the rise in early puberty rates. Estrogen and leptin, two important hormones in puberty, are produced by fat cells, and many researchers believe puberty in girls is triggered when the body reaches a certain percentage of fat, in combination with other factors. This is one reason many competitive youth athletes experience later puberty than their peers. Xenoestrogens. Xenoestrogens are man-made compounds that mimic the behavior of natural estrogen in the body. They occur in everything from plastic baby bottles and food storage containers to shampoo, cosmetics, and sunscreen to pesticides and insecticides used in residential and agricultural pest control to growth hormones fed to the animals that produce our meat, milk and eggs to the water we bathe in. Some shampoos targeted at the African-American community even advertise their estrogen content. Many scientists believe xenoestrogens are a major contributing factor to the epidemic of precocious puberty; others believe they are only minor contributors. Soy-based infant formula. Soy has one of the highest concentrations of phytoestrogens, which are naturally occurring plant estrogens. In adults, phytoestrogens are generally considered neutral or even beneficial, especially from dietary sources. However, some researchers feel that the concentration of phytoestrogen in soy infant formulas may reach dangerous levels because these formulas are the only or primary source of nourishment for so long. These researchers claim that infants fed soy formula receive the estrogen equivalent of five birth control pills per day (based on body weight). About 25% of infants in the United States are fed soy-based formulas. Sexualized television and media. In one controversial theory, some researchers claim that exposure to sexualized media may be contributing to the increase in cases of early puberty. It is clear that visual stimuli affect the brain and body chemistry. For example, a photograph of a delicious looking meal causes people to salivate. However, the degree to which media depictions of sex could affect brain and body chemistry is still extremely uncertain and highly controversial. Get me out... that would include the Xenoestrogens in case you did not read what was put down!
Small house moths and grubs - can you advise how to repel rid? Greetings I have small cream/brown mottled house moths that I think are housing themselves in central heating outlet, I have 2- 4 a night/day, this morning I saw 2 white small grubs one crawling on the pelmet ceiling in kitchen and another on the skirting board in living room. Can any one advise how to repel them and get rid please? Many thanks for your help. There is some info at link below but I would like some other options how to treat, can not yet find any image to show you. http://www.devonline.gov.uk/index/information_and_services/environmental_health/pollution/eh-pollution-pest_control/eh-pollution-moths.htm I have read Cedar is repellant to moths any one else know of a any other natural repellant? Thank you all for your good advice (disregarding one exception) very difficult to choose who should have all the points.
How to eliminate Ants from your house? I have an ant problem at home. Have a clean house, where every garbage we have are individually wrapped in paper before going into the garbage can, garbage are moved outside the house everyday. Weird thing is I don't have ant problems in the kitchen and dining room (mess areas), but have ant infestation on areas not commonly infested by ants like the store rooms and the bathroom. My store room Consists of groceries, e.g canned foods, biscuits with plastic wrapping, instant noodles etc. So theoretically, these should be clean and do not have holes in them. Each time I replenish the stocks, I occasionally experience ants eating through the packaging and the contents inside. This always happens no matter how clean the area is. Bathroom I again experience ants eating the grout from the bathroom floor and wall tiles. I wonder what interests the ants from gnawing into the grout. Have tried pesticides does not work, as the queen ant is not killed or can not be found. For the pest control, my house is just treated for termites, the entire place is fumigated and have termite powder all over strategic locations to kill termites. Well, the termites are gone but the ants remain. Have tried Ant killing products that let the ant bring home the poison and have an affect after 7 days. Well, it works only for a short period of time, and the same problem happens 1 month after. Anybody now other methods of removing ants from you home? Natural and other methods are all acceptable to me. The Ant Killing solution is the syrupy substance that I let the ants take home to their queen. This works for about 2 weeks only. Then after a month the ants are back!

My purpose, 'mum2mh', is to explain the meaning of the word 'theory', when used in a scientific context. Many creationists seem to misunderstand the correct definition, and there is some confusion between a 'theory' and a 'hypothesis'..... duh

Can humanity make it through this Century? I read this =] I sorta like it, But do you belive we will make it through the 21st Century :O! That’s right, Sir Martin Rees, Great Britain's Astronomer Royal and respected professor of astrophysics at Cambridge University claims in his book 'Our Final Century' that humans have only a 50-50 shot of making it through the 21st century. In some of his proposed scenarios not everyone dies, but either way the odds don’t sound that good. Also, I’d like to personally apologize to Stephen Hawking for criticizing his idea that we need to get off the planet ASAP in an earlier post. Sorry professor! I’m converted. Let’s get out of here. Rees explains why stargazers like he and Hawking have the “big picture” when it comes to life on Earth. “Astronomers have a special perspective to see ourselves as just a part of a process that is just beginning rather than having achieved its end," he says. "And perhaps this gives an extra motive to be concerned about what happens here on Earth in this century." At the risk of sounding like Debbie Downer—here’s a sampling of the top 10 proposed scenarios of how we’re all going to die by this time next century. 1) Death by Comet Pound for pound, comets are much more dangerous than asteroids, which have nonetheless gotten more media attention. Comets travel a lot faster through space than Asteroids, which travel at about 25-30 km per second. The speed of a comet approaches a much faster 70 km per second. The kinetic energy of an incoming object from space follows the equation: Kinetic Energy = 1/2 the mass of the object x (velocity) ^ 2. A relatively small object of just one and a half km in diameter hitting the Earth would release more energy than all the atomic bombs ever detonated and then some. An object of 20 km or more would likely cause mass extinction. But hey, at least we’d go out with a bang. 2) Self-Replicating Nanobots Another risk is nanobots turning the world in to grey sludge. Self-replicating, nanometer-size robots could theoretically get out of control and chew through organic matter and turn the into a lifeless "gray goo," a term coined by nanotech pioneer K. Eric Drexler. Drexler describes grey goo in Chapter 11 Engines Of Destruction: "...early assembler-based replicators could beat the most advanced modern organisms. 'Plants' with 'leaves' no more efficient than today's solar cells could out-compete real plants, crowding the with an inedible foliage. Tough, omnivorous 'bacteria' could out-compete real bacteria: they could spread like blowing pollen, replicate swiftly, and reduce the to dust in a matter of days. Dangerous replicators could easily be too tough, small, and rapidly spreading to stop - at least if we made no preparation. We have trouble enough controlling viruses and fruit flies." 3) Germ Warfare (or Germ “Accident”) Innovation is changing things fast and furiously. Scientists are now creating synthetic life that will allow the possibility of creating biological weapons. Weaponized germs are a real risk. Rees has morbidly placed a bet for $1,000 that a biological incident will claim one million lives by 2020. Most terrifying is that this already almost happened a couple years ago in Canberra. Scientists at the Pest Animal Control Co-operative Research Centre were fiddling with the mousepox virus when they inadvertently created a strain that killed mice, including those that had been vaccinated. Rees asks if scientists could do the same thing with smallpox. The answer is “yes” and nothing stands between humanity and such a disaster other than "a sense of responsibility among individual biologists". 4) Global Warming There’s still plenty of argument on whether global warming is man-made, a natural solar phenomenon, or just something Al Gore came up with in his free time. But if it does turn out to be as bad as some experts claim, the worldwide temperature may rise as much as 2 degrees Celsius, basically hotter than anything in the last one and a half million years. That would lead to famine on a scale never before seen, mass migration, and fighting over the scant resources still available. It probably wouldn't completely wipe man off of the Earth, but the conditions would make you wonder who got the better end of the stick—the dead or the survivors. But at least it would absolve the next concern… 5) Overpopulation This could be the biggest threat to continued life on the planet, because as more people need to be fed, it puts even greater pressure on our rapidly shrinking resources. The growth is now exponentially frightening. Some experts say that with wise resource management our Earth could comfortably host everyone, but when have humans ever been good at resource management? Many of our present global problems can be linked to population growth and wasteful resource management. By 2050, the population of Earth will reach 9 billion humans. That's two and a half billion more people competing for limited

Help!!! I need to finish it today! (2)? This is another part of the article. Can anyboby help me to rewrite it? And find the mistakes in the article? Thanks a lot! Here is the article: Human activities, such as direct harvesting of species, introduction of alien species, habitat destruction, and various forms of habitat degradation, have caused dramatic losses of biodiversity; current extinction rates are estimated to be 100–1000 times higher than prehuman extinction rates. Some measure of biodiversity is responsible for providing essential functions and services that directly improve human life. For example, many medicines, clothing fibers, and industrial products and the vast majority of foods are derived from naturally occurring species. In addition, species are the key working parts of natural ecosystems. They are responsible for maintenance of the gaseous composition of the atmosphere, regulation of the global climate, generation and maintenance of soils, recycling of nutrients and waste products, and biological control of pest species. Ecosystems surely would not function if all species were lost, although it is unclear just how many species are necessary for an ecosystem to function properly.
