How can I get rid of an invasion of chipmunks in my yard?

They have made big holes everywhere. Also what is the best way to fill the holes? Should I try to get rid of the chipmunks before or after I fill the holes.

1. Stop feeding them. probably dirt?...
2. .Get a cat. Then fill the holes.
3. How large are the holes? Chipmunks do not usually make holes larger than what their body can squeeze through...if the holes are larger than an inch around, it's probably something else (woodchuck perhaps). You can use ammonia soaked rags placed near the entrance of the holes to discourage them from returning (whether it be chipmunk or otherwise).
4. put the garden hose in one of the holes and let it run. they will leave or they will drown. when they are gone then fill the holes.
5. Put mothballs down there. Animals hate mothballs. I have alot of them in my yard but they don't bother me so I let 'em be.
