How do I gain a chipmunks trust?

There are 2 wild(of course) chipmunks in my backyard. I give them food, sunflower seeds and bird seeds and they eat it a lot. I see them eating all the time....from inside. I want to gain their trust and whenever I walk outside to see them they just run off....any suggestions.

  1. You have to give them the love and care they deserve.
  2. stay away or you'll get rabbies and die in a week! I repeat stay away from from the VERMIN
  3. just keep feeding them and don't try and catch them
  4. I suggest making a chipmunk hand puppet. Name it "Jasmine".
  5. I dont think you can gain the trust of a wild chipmunk no matter what you do.
  6. Place the food about 10 feet away from u and wait till they come to eat it. Every day move a foot closer...
  7. don't vote for bush. lol. they may eat ur food but its gonna take time 4 them to respect you and be comfortable around u
  8. Open a window (you look less threatening to them when you're slightly obscured) and throw them nuts and seeds. It may take a few tries or days, but eventually one will notice that you're throwing food to them, and heartily partake. Keep throwing seeds one at a time, closer and closer to you. This will gain their trust. Then you can go outside in a non-threatening manner and continue throwing until they eventually eat out of your palm. Then you can name them, dress them up and teach them harmonies.
  9. try giving it a penut and dont try to grab its tail
  10. Remember chipmunks bite.
  11. make them private eyes, give them a pet fly and help them solve cases involving mean cats and stereotypicaly mad scientists!
  12. Sitting outside when the chipmunks are eating works, because then your being there is already a fixture for them. After a few times of this you can try moving (slowly) around them. I don't think it's possible to actually get them to eat out of your hand or anything, but you should be able to get quite a bit closer. Also, sugary foods increase the likelyhood they will stick around better. FruitLoops are tops. Lastly, make sure you don't smell too much. Strong smeling shampoos or perfumes will scare away any wildlife. (i got all this from my grandma, she loves having chipmunks around)
  13. Do NOT try to gain the chipmunks trust. There are some very sick and cruel people in the world, and if the chipmunks in your yard start to trust humans, they could become the victims of one of these other people. Wild chipmunks do not need to be fed anything. They find all the food they need in their natural environment. If you would like to leave an extra treat for them occassionally, leave some sunflower seeds, nuts, grapes or some cracked or whole corn (the kind you get for animal feed, not the corn you eat) where they can find it, but do not approach them and attempt to feed them anything by hand. Respect that these are wild animals that need to retain their instincts in order to survive.
