Safe and easy way to get rid of termites?

I am hollowing out a old tree stump in my yard to use for growing plants. I am sure this white bugs are Termites. And I am looking for a safe way to get rid of the termites. I do not want to use anything that may harm my plants nor harmful to any of the wildlife that comes in my yard. Is there any product out there that can do what I am asking? No I am not calling Terminex or any other pest control because they Want to charge an arm a a leg for one little tree stump. Thank you all.

  1. The termites you may find in a stump will not harm plants or wildlife in any way. The only thing termites are capable of eating is wood or cellulose products such as paper. They typically stay underground (unless swarming) and look for wood in contact with the soil (stumps). You really dont have any need to get rid of them. They will eat the stump, but not down to the ground. They will eat tunnels throughout it, but it wouldn't have any adverse effects on a plant or animal. Depending on how close that stump is to your house, you may be smart to get a termite inspection, because if it is close, their foraging nature will inevitably lead them to the next largest source wood close by which in that case is your home. They are naturally occuring and ubiquitous in most places. I think the only thing to consider in this scenario is proximity to the house.
