eChipmunks

My chipmunk almost drowned!!!!! what do i do?????

i swear im going to make a novel out of all the things this guy does! okay so i have had a problem with my chipmunk getting out of his cage and having little adventures in the house. this time i bought two locks that prevent him from opening the cage door. geeeee why did i think that would work? anyway this time i found him in the toilet with only his head sticking out of the water. at first i was scared to look because i thought he might be dead. but then he chirped and i scooped him out. i put him back in his cage and he tried to run around but he is dragging his legs. what should i do? i put him in a clean dry sock which is his favorite place to sleep but im worried. are his legs just tired? should i wait until he wakes up to see if he is okay? or should i take him to the vet now? oh and i live in spain but i dont speak any spanish at all. he is running now and using his legs. i gave him a few nuts and he ate them but he is still shaking i hope he didnt get into the plant food. oh and i live in spain but i dont speak any spanish at all. he is running now and using his legs. i gave him a few nuts and he ate them but he is still shaking i hope he didnt get into the plant food.

  4. HI, I live in the USA, Washington State, and have lots of pet chipmunks, out doors where they like to be. I had one fall into a bucket of water and nearly drown but it was just fine. I watched him for awhile. He sat in the sun and cleaned himself until he was dry, just like a cat would do. When he was dry, I knew he was fine. With yours, I suspect the water he was in was very cold. This may have caused some nerve damage to his legs, beings how they would have been being kicked in the severe cold water, right? right, I would think. But the fact that you are seeing a improvement, I would not worry, I think he will be fine. Just dont let him do it again. I Also, I dont personally beleive my chipmunks should be caged but I suppose everyone does not have the place I have for them where they are safe. My Deck I have turned into kind of a reserve for them. No other animals allowed ...ever!! So they come and go and sit on my lap and shoulder and eat nuts to their hearts content. And I have found they have pretty good memories beleive it or not. They remember me in the spring after sleeping all winter. Isnt that amazing? I think so. The lock for your cage...hmm lets see, what could you use...this sounds rediculous but have you tried a combo bike lock lol...just grasping for ideas....trying to help as a devout chipmunk lover...Lainey
