Flea control - Get rid of the pests?
my house has fleas, especially the living room area because my family keeps on getting bites. And sometimes the fleas jump on my arm or feet, we caught about 5 but those pests get away really fast. We're suspecting that its coming from our rabbit. Do we really need to call the exterminator or is there other ways of dealing with these pests? Also, anyone recommend any products thats effective or that fleas are afraid of? Desperate *sigh*

- buy some flea bombs, at a hardware, get rid of the rabbit, read directions leave for 5 to 6 hrs, turn off all pilot lights, [flames]
- The problem with fleas is that you can kill them but still leave the eggs ready to start off the next generation. Commercial sprays are OK if you've only got one or two rooms to deal with, but it sounds as if you need the heavy guns. The good news is that whatever these guys use is very effective!
- Try to find either food grade or insecticidal grade diatomaceous earth. DO NOT use pool grade, it is dangerous! Rub this into your rabbits fur close to the skin and sprinkle on your carpets. This will scratch the fleas exo-skeleton and cause them to dehydrate. Diatomaceous earth can be purchased at farm supply stores or online. It is safe, effective, and chemical free. Run your sweeper thoroughly in all rooms and especially focus under furniture and along baseboards where larvae tend to hide, and do this two times a day until your flea problem is eliminated. Also sweep all furniture and clean all fabrics. Throw out the sweeper bag immediately outside of the house in the trash. Mop all uncarpeted floors. Place shallow white bowls of water with a little soap on the floor under a nightlight during the night. This will attract fleas and they will drown. Place these in all problem rooms but make sure the nightlight does not create a fire hazard. The usual chemical approach is also an option. Bathe your rabbit, clean his cage...do this (clean cage) for the natural approach as well. Run the sweeper, this will pick up some fleas and their eggs and cause others to hatch to make treatment more effective. Place flea bombs throughout your home following instructions. There will be a chemical residue you will need to clean afterward and you will need at least two treatments at least 10 days apart as the bombs to not kill the eggs, though many slow their reproductive cycle upon direct contact. Note that even products claiming to kill the eggs, do not.
- You will need to treat the whole house just in case.... Vacuum everything, couches, chairs, under heavy furniture etc.Wash drapes and linens and put them outside in the sun to dry. While they are drying use an insect bomb that is labeled for use against fleas. Once the house is bombed vacuum again. You can also use some of the Ortho Max Home Defense spray after bombing and vacuuming. Treat your rabbit for fleas before bringing it back into the house. You will also need to clean his cage. It may take you repeating this a few time to get rid of all the fleas. But it works.
- this site is flea treatment for rabbits. good luck. http://www.allearssac.org/fleas.html I tried every thing then this I sprinkled a little on my carpet and waited about an hour and vacuumed and I did this every day for about a week, no more fleas also empty you sweeper before you start this and don't change the bag until the week is out any flea eggs you pick up will remain in and die in the bag
- I give my dog Garlic she has not had a flea on her for three years. I use a clove and cop it up and mix it in her food. I don't know how much to give a mouse or a rabbit Far as getting rid of them I would Bomb the heck out of your place.
