  1. Try drawing a thick white chalk line around the house where you think they are getting in. For some reason they won't cross over it. If you don't believe me, try trapping them in boxes of white chalk lines on a driveway. It's weird! Also, you mind as well try the Pest thing there, it's only five bucks and if it works, hooray.
  2. The electronic devices do not work at all. Waste of money! The real answer to your problem depends on a correct identification of the ant. All ants not the same, their biology and habits/requirements are different. So are the control procedures(this is where a professional could be handy). Inspection! Even if they appear random, ants make and follow trails. Carefully trace it back to a source, try to find a nest, and treat it with anything that names ants on the label. Usually a spray application, although baits work well on certain kinds of ants. The nest may be in a crawl space under your kitchen, it may be in an exterior wall void, it may be outside under rocks or debris of any kind, even leaf debris. Ants can trail from a long distance, even from a neighbors yard or house and appear in your kitchen. Treat nest. May be easier to call a pest control professional. They need to provide a guarantee to eliminate problem. Do not be pressured into signing a year or more contract, unless you really would like to have regular maintenance treatments. Natural or "green" treatments are available, but no matter what the salesman says, they are not as effective as regular treatments. (Many years in pest control)
  3. Go to your garden center and get AMDRO ant block. The ants take this down into their nest thinking it's food. They eat it and die. Our customers tell us it's the best thing they've used. Try this first.
  4. u can put hedge apples around your house this is supposed to keep bugs out. also get some "great stuff". it is a foam that sets up semi-hard and fills cracks anywhere that you have them. only bad thing is that these aerosol cans do not have adjustable settings on the nozzles. so to remedy this get a drinking straw and put it on the nozzle with some tape, as to make an extension for the spray nozzle. hold the can in one hand and with your other hand pinch the end of the straw where the liquid is dispersed. this way you have an adjustable nozzle and can fill the smallest of cracks. now take this can and go outside and go all the way around the foundation of your house and fill in any spots where there is a gap, hole ,crevice or any area. if you have a basement, turn on the lights at night time of course, and go outside around your foundation and wherever else and look for light coming through the walls. fill in all of these areas with great stuff. also look around for pieces on the exterior of your house that are damaged and repair them. if you do have a basement that has insulation in the joists, take the insulation down and inspect it for ants. i have seen many ant colonies reside in such places. i have used those electronic devices and i do not waste my time trying something that im convinced is garbage. you may also want to replace the door seal underneath your exterior doors. a lot of hardware stores have this rubber molding designed for your particular needs. it is inexpensive and easily replaced.
