How do I remove chipmunks from my yard?

I have quite a few chipmunks in my yard that are doing a lot of damage. What is the best way to get rid of them? I'd love to shoot them but I live in town so that's not an option.

  2. I got some live traps from Ace Hardware designed for squirrels with dual trapdoors. Fortunately for me in my ongoing battle with the chipmunks, mine are really dumb and I have caught several without even baiting the trap! Sunflower seeds (and other baits) work well for me. My neighbor feeds the &*#%@ things so its a constant problem. Once I catch one I let it go in a park several miles away (or if my neighbor isn't looking I shoot it with a BB gun).
  3. Cayenne pepper on your plants will teach them. They will learn, but it may take several applications. It must be reapplied after each rain. I did this faithfully for one summer, and the squirrels and chipmunks stayed away the full 4 years that I cared for that property. If you want an easier method, save a full grown cat from the humane society. Make sure you get an outside cat, preferably one who was raised by an outside mama cat. My cat only comes to dinner to see what I'm serving. I've seen him catch chipmunks for 3 other family members before settling down under my husbands truck to eat his own. He just enjoys the hunt.
  4. I have the same exact problem. I hate those things. People have tried putting various things in and around their holes. Mothballs, ammonia soaked rags, red pepper powder, dog and other predator urine, dog hair, human hair and male human pee, used cat litter. Some people say some of these things work, others say they don't. But, psst, I hate to recommend this (don't want the PETA people on my azz) but some people use something called a RatZapper. They say it works very well to get rid of them. I could never get one. My husband would flip. He thinks they're cute and, to my great annoyance, actually feeds the damn things. He doesn't care that they get in our garbage, eat the bird eggs and dig up and eat the eggs that the turtles lay in our yard.
