Are landlords required to provide exterminators/pest control services for tenants in Yonkers, NY?
In my current apartment, we've had a few mice. I just saw a mouse on my stove and I can't live like that! We also have cockroaches in the bathroom and kitchen. The landlord of my old apartment had an exterminator visit the building every few months. My current landlord does not. Is he required to provide this service? (It's a 4 story building with about 8 apartments) Also, we moved in 2 years ago and still don't have screens in several windows. Is any of this legal?

- You have to inform your landlord of these conditions. If you inform them and they don't do anything about it, you can contact the correct government agency to file a complaint.
- Please provide your state. Generally a landlord has to keep your place habitable. Most cities include pest control in that description. Contact the landlord to report the condition and request some action. You could do repair and deduct, but in my experience, if you only have an exterminator visit your apartment, the bugs and mice will soon return.
