What is the best pest DIY control product?

Ive got these annoying rats in my house and ive called council who did some inspection and left poison. Those bastards charged me £75 for it. It seemed to work for a while but they r back again. Ive used the glue mats and must have killed a dozen and blocked all the possible holes but they keep coming through kitchen. So what should I do?? Is there any good company anyone knows of or what DIY product is the most effective?

1. get yourself a jack russell or a cat and keep it in the kitchen at night. and check the manhole and drain covers near your house. ☼
