how do you get rid of chipmunks-safely?
Chipmunks are tearing up my landscaping and I'm afraid are getting under the foundation of the house. I want to get rid of them but I wnat to use products that are not harmful to the environment, pets or kids

- Try taking a handful of human hair - from a hairbrush or cuttings after a hair cut - and fill several hairnets. Anchor the hairnets to the ground or hang in shrubbery at ground level in the rodent's path, or near where you suspect their lair to be.
- try using have a heart traps.
- mothballs and/or crushed red pepper.
- Poison peanuts/wheat work. These are made by the W. R. Sweeney Company. Just leave them out in several locations where you have seen them. Make sure you refill as often as you need to and place it in a area the pets and kids cannot get into. My guess is that you have so many, killing just a few is not putting a dent in the population. After a few weeks, you will find it is unnecessary to re-fill as often, then not at all. They WILL be gone! I am amazed of the people out there that get all bent out of shape out of removing rodents. Chip monks are just that. A rodent, as is a rat or a mouse. They are destructive, dirty, and need to be removed. Several years ago, my parents had to have their poured patio removed because these cute little critters tunneled under it to the point it caused it to lower several inches and eventually cracked in two.
- Use a large bucket filled half with water, and sprinkle sunflower seed on top of water, then place a plank or board from the ground to the bucket, (like a ramp) and place sunflower seeds on the ramp. The chipmunks will go up the ramp and see the seeds in the water, they will dive in, and drown, they can not swim.
- Wow, you guys are tough. I kind of like them but I would suggest cats... they will keep them away, also a 'have-a-heart' trap works well but not when they have babies at home. I know I'm a sap!
