  1. go to petco for the fleas and take the cat to a no kill shelter
  2. Get some good flea control on your dog, like Frontline or Advantage. Nothing from Walmart or over-the-counter. Edit - Either give them to a no-kill shelter or re-home them to good homes (Make sure the kittens are 8 weeks old before you give them away.)
  3. fleas are immenseley difficult to get rid of and its a vicious circle, the fleas if they are left without a host i.e. the cat or the dog can, and do lie dormant in carpets beds and sofas, and suddenly come to life with movement which can of course be a human, who they will bite. I bought a second hand carpet which turned out to have fleas in it, I paid to have a man round and spray the house and I was still getting bitten, however when he came back he gave me a piece of sticky paper and a heat lamp to actually attract them, so that when they jumped under the heat they landed on the sticky paper. and at the same time he re-sprayed again. the second time it worked, and he left the heat light until no more had jumped on there and I was clear. I suppose you could make something like that yourself, but he did it to identify what flea he was dealing with, like you I would see something jump! but I also had bites, and because I didn't have a cat I was next in line.they could be in your setee and stuff, You need to treat the cat, treat the dog and get the house sprayed... and then if necessary the house sprayed again, which they should do free if it hasn't worked the first time. Just be aware, even if you have no animals they can lie dormant till they feel movement for several months. Your local council may do it free. I don,t think getting rid of the cat will help, better on the cat alive, than sleeping in the carpet, and keep doing the cat... Nasty I know... may require lots of patience...flea injections from the vet that last several months and a house spray including mattresses and carpets and sofas,,the man will tell you where they have been. Good luck
