Anyone out there doing their own pest control? What do you use and does it work?

I've researched a lot on the net---seems to me that calling Terminx or Orkin is a waste of money. So I decided to do it myself and before I get started, I'd like to have some good advice. What's the best thing to use, how often, and so forth.....I don't have money to waste, that's why I am going to try myself--and oh, I live in an apartment and my neighbors aren't exactly the cleanest people. Do I still have a chance to get rid of the roaches and spiders? Thank you in advance!!!

  1. If you live in an apt. building all apts. must be treated at the same time. If only one apt. is treated, the bugs go next door until the insecticide disperses and then come back. Short of having the land lord treat all of the apts. you are wasting your time and effort. The best way to kill roaches, ants and spiders is to spray inside and out with an indoor approved insecticide, be sure to spray inside the stove, under the refrig, up under the sink, remove drawers and spray inside an up under the counters, inside couches and easy chairs, T.V's and any place else Roaches and bugs can hide.. Then phase two is sprinkle boric acid and Sevin powder in the carpets and corners work it in with a broom and then vaccum up the excess. That will help control any new comers. Finally in two weeks, spray again to get the newly hatched from egg bugs. I have had more success fumigating my rentals with this procedure than calling an exterminator.
  2. Boric acid. Put in in a catsup bottle , the one with the pointed top, and you can squirt it in tight places. Works great.
  3. What has the neighbors got to do with your hole in the wall? You have doors and walls. Stop blaming the world. put a drag strip over the bottom edge of the outside door will keep stuff from entering from the hallway. Then sit in the living room with a loaded 22 and shoot any that try to get in.
