What animal eats chipmunks and Squirrels?
Our backyard is practically filled with small pests (chipmunks, squirrels, birds, etc) and recently have been using a high powered air rifle to kill some of them. However, yesterday, we killed a Chipmunk and a Squirrel. They were definitely dead, but I checked them this morning and they were completely gone. We don't have any cats or dogs, and we're worrying if we have an even bigger pest lurking in our back yard and starting to worry.

- I eat them.
- It might be a wolf or a coyote. But, i know of these ants that can totally obliterate dead animals over night. They only live in like, africa though.
- Probably a cat but could be an owl or scavenger birds
- you leaving dead carcasses in your backyard can and will obviously attract scavengers and predators such as coyotes,hawks,owls,wolfs,raccoons,ect.... so its really your fault if you do have one show up. plus why are you just shooting them for no reason???? if your eating them yourself that's one thing but killing them for any other reason is just ignorant. maybe in the morning when you leave for work that wolf you attracted will still be hungry and waiting for you.
- Feral cats are common.
- I am with Ink on this one. There's a world of difference between chipmunks and squirrels...and rodents like rats and mice. I can't see any reason to be shooting them OUT OF SEASON. As for what may have taken their dead carcasses - it was mostly likely an owl or hawk. Also, crows and vultures will take them as food. Even bald eagles will scavenge for food by picking-up dead animals that they find.
- there may be feral cats and dogs around. but also foxes, weasels, stoats, and similar small predators are common in cities. Oh, raccoons would eat them up too and coyotes, plenty of cities now have coyotes in them. and rats too, rats would eat them.
- CITY- cats, racoon, snakes, owl country- cats, racoon, snakes, coyote, wolf, bob cat, mt. lion. owl
- My cats do a pretty good job in that respect.
