eChipmunks

How can I increase the population of chipmunks on my property?

We live in the country with lots of forest, but there are very few chipmunks here. we have plenty of squirrels and turkeys, just not enough chipmunks. I want to introduce more or increase their population in some other way. Any ideas?

  1. find out what they eat
  2. contact your state wildlife and fishery dept. Look up your state with .gov at the end. Like sample would be http://www.wa.gov WASHINGTON STATE NEVADA state: http://www.nv.gov Also, plant as many native plants in your yard, that are naturally found out in the wildlife. Ask your local nursery for plants/trees/shrubs.
  3. LEAVE NATURE ALONE!
  4. Where do you live? Eastern chipmunks mate in early spring and again in early summer, producing litters of four or five young twice each year. Western chipmunks only breed once a year. The young emerge from the burrow after about six weeks and strike out on their own within the next two weeks. Watch your chipmunks' behavior closely. Mating usually occurs after they chase each other for a few minutes. Keep in mind that while your female chipmunk is pregnant, she will stay active. Your chipmunk will give birth after 28 to 35 days.
  5. Just sit out in your yard. You sound like a nut.
