I need help getting rid of ants?

We've been having a really annoying ant problem! They won't go away, and it's been months! We called Clark pest control 3 times, it's probably not their fault but the ants are still there. Does anyone have any suggestions to get rid of them forever? I can't stand having another bowl of sugar or loaf of bread be thrown away because it gets covered in ants!

  1. use salt or go to walmart
  2. keep the floors clean, including cleaning up pet food from the floor. you can put cayenne pepper around the exterior of your house, and put out ant baits that will be tracked back to the hill and kill the colony.
  3. I heard salt meant to be good
  4. They want food, and you're providing it. All food must be in the fridge, in the freezer, in a metal can, in a glass jar, or in a sealed Lock & Lock plastic storage box ( An improved form of tupperware that is sold be Wal-Mart and is guaranteed to keep the "smell" inside and all insects "outside." The link below is designed for ants that are smarter than the pest control people. I've seen it work well. We used it in the country because we didn't want to use poison on anything for fear that something larger would eat the poisoned thing, and then the poison might just get passed on up the food chain. Seriously, the idea of the chickens outside eating insects that we'd poisoned, and then laying eggs that were contaminated with the poison that they carried in their bodies, and us eating the eggs. No, we went for a more effective and less hazardous solution. Also, far more effective. It relys upon the use of diatomaceous earth, which wouldn't harm anything other than an insect. It's a soil that looks like a field of cut up broken glass, if you're an insect, yet it doesn't seem to bother people or animals. If you're an insect though, "starvation" looks better than having to cross over this stuff. It's a thousand times more discouraging than poison.
  5. Look carefully around where the ants are and see if you can determine where they are coming in from. If you can find their entry into the house you can spray the access or block it with some caulking. I wouldn't hesitate to call the pest control company back again. Though if it has been a long time since they were last here they may charge you for a new visit- ck their warranty. You are paying them for results and callbacks cost them money. Until you can get rid of the ants just keep your food in tightly sealed containers, if they get on the outside of it you can wipe them off or brush them off without throwing away the food. If you use insecticides use one that are available in your local stores and use them according to the label. There are a lot of insecticides out there but not all are labeled for home use. Again-try to determine where they are coming from and stop them there.
  6. Pest control consists of: Sanitation Food debris especially sugars and proteins contribute to ant problems. Try to eliminate these sources. Standing water, leaks, excess moisture also add to the problem. Exclusion Cracks in window frames, doors, underneath foundations, around pipes etc allow ants (pests) in general from entering your home. Try to seal these entry points with grout or caulking. Plants on the exterior should be trimmed back away from the house. Harborage areas such as leave piles, stacks of firewood, clutter should be removed. Cutting down on the amount of water used in your yard may help as well. Chemical A combination of residual treatments, dusting & baiting should be applied on the perimeter as well as interior of your home to minimize if not, eliminate ants in your home.
