if you find 1 or 2 bugs in your normally clean home....?

does it mean there are more? I have only been living in this house 5 months, its a rental, and its really really old, and in the middle of the woods. I clean and bleach all the time and we pay Orkin pest control to come by once a month and spray inside and outside. Considering that we do live in the middle of the woods and the weather is changing, should i be worried that i found 2 disgusting roaches in 2 days???? I have hardwood floors and the house is very small so i've checked everywhere and under every cabinet. We dont have a lot of clutter but i dont see anywhere there could be more but i'm worried about eggs. I had thoroughly bleached and cleaned the bathroom the night before when i walked in and found one above the shower (as far from the bleach as possible) and i freaked out. Cleaned everything again, sprayed everywhere. Then I saw another smaller one, almost dead, the next day, right in the middle of the floor where i had just swiffered with pinesol!!! I've never had roaches in a home before, ever. I've always heard if there's one there's more. Should i call the pest control back and have them spray again? They just came a week ago and i'm pregnant so i'm trying not to use too much harsh spray. I'm not used to roaches or cockroaches and feel dirty thinking about them having been in here. The only way i can find that they might get in is a window that will not close all the way, but there's a screen behind it? Can they still get in? I didnt say they were coming up from under the house, i dont know where they came from. We live in the woods and there are a LOT of bugs outside. Its possible they could have just crawled inside to get away from the chemicals when they bug sprayed last time.

  1. they are coming up from under the house! If it were spiders, I'd say don't worry, but ROACHES??? YES WORRY! You HAVE to find the nest or you'll NEVER get rid of them you can have ORKIN spray everyday and it's not going to do any good til they find the NEST!!!
  2. I wouldn't worry, you live in the woods! Just wait til next month when you call Orkin to control the pests, and ask the Gentleman if there is anything you could do to prevent it. Until then I'd go and grab some roach poison/traps. Also something you can do is grab a piece of bread burn the crap out of it and put eye drops on it. put it in a corner (without carpet) Eye drops have a chemical in them that will kill roaches.
  3. Bugs outside should not equate to bugs inside, especially if you have an exterminator coming once a month. The spraying obviously is not working. There is a product called Invict Gold Roach Bait Gel that is sold at Pest Control stores or through Amazon. I used it to get rid of the roaches that had infested my Dad's house after he passed away. There were literally dozens crawling around in mid-day. I was so disgusted and had a hard time coming to the house to clean it out. The product comes in tubes and I applied pea sized amounts or small lines throughout the house. Within days they were gone, and I haven't seen a roach in over 2 months. The Do-It Yourself Pest control guy told me that it is used by professional exterminators. I also put one tube in my own house because I noticed 4 roaches over a 2 week period of time...after i had brought some of my dad's items to my house. Since I put the product down I have not seen anymore roaches. I know they had to have come from my dad's house, since I have lived in my house for 9 years and have never had roaches. The gel can remain in your house as long as it is not in open areas. There is no smell. Since you are pregnant I would have someone else put it down so as not to expose yourself to chemicals unncessarily.
  4. Don't panic!! A clean home doesn't automatically mean NO BUGS. Bugs will go anywhere they want to go unless they come to a barrier be it chemical or physical. Roaches can squeeze through unbelievably tiny spaces that you may never be able to see. Let the exterminator know you found them and ask him to check and spray every square inch of the house outside and let you know if he finds any possible entry points. It's getting cooler so that should help.
  5. Orkin is great. Did anybody tell you that roaches will usually come out to die? Also, they usually want to come inside if it's too wet outside. They have been around a lot longer than us.
  6. roaches will come up through the drains if there's no water in the pipe to keep them out. Make sure all drains are full with water. BTW...bugs are a fact of life, we can control, but we can't eliminate.
  7. answer my question please :(
