Can I refuse the pest control spraying for my building?

ok you may be wondering WHY, I would want to refuse the pest control treatment my apt complex is doing, WELL. I am sensitive. I have a young child. I have a pet. They are spraying a CHEMICAL, that KILLS insects. I also live in the mountains. I've never really had any problems with bugs in the unit. I just don't trust our government to properly regulate the chemicals that the industry uses. I rather just keep my apt clean, use Natural resources and means to accomplish the same effect. yes one day maybe I can own my own home, but until then this mom doesn't want to take the risk. Can I tell them to please not spray my apt, that I will purchase a natural product and use that? I'm not asking them to allow the unit to go without pest control, simply that I can purchase and utilize a natural pest spray. I'm actually surprised more people are not concerned about these harmful chemicals being used in their apartments and homes, and yes in a dream world, I could afford a house, maybe even buy a condo in a eco community, like my friends down the street... where they have an amazing natural heat systems, solar panels for electricity and a beautiful organic community garden, no pest control spray.. and no pest problems! hmmm...

  1. You can ASK them not to spray. You can't TELL them not to spray. The bottom line is, it's their apartment, not yours.
  2. You can ask. They can tell you to stuff it.
  3. No. All units must be sprayed in order for the pest control to be effective. If they exclude any of them, the bugs - roaches, whatever, can retreat to the one that is not sprayed. The reason you have not had a problem with bugs is that your apartment complex DOES spray. If you have a pet and a child that you are that concerned about, try renting a single family house or maybe a duplex that does not offer pest control.
  4. You can certainly request that they not spray your apartment, but mostly likely they will tell you they are going to spray it anyway. You should either rent a single family home or buy your own house.
  5. You can ask, but if you don't let them spray and they spray in all the other unit's that may send all the pest right into your apartment.
