What are the safest methods for pest control and why?

I would concede to believe, before further research, that chemical fertilizers must not all be hazardous. After all, we are certainly not, collectively, getting sick from fruits and vegetables all the time. Organic produce is almost always more delicious than the rubbish that your local supermarket will sell to you; but the pest control methods are a big factor for consumers seeking out organic produce.

  1. No, most commercial fertilizers are not harmful. Phosphorus and potassium are both naturally occurring minerals mined from the ground. Organically grown produce isn't necessarily better tasting. What usually makes is more tasty is because it's locally grown and therefore can be picked at a later stage of maturity. So much of the produce in the store is and must be picked green (immature) so it will be firm enough to withstand transit across the country, or the equator. Right now, most cantaloupes in stores are from Guatemala and white seedless grapes from Chile. If both of those were picked at their most flavorful stage, the flesh would be soft and mushy. Ty the time they got to the US supermarket, they'd be either mush or a rotting, stinking mess. If organically grown produce was picked green as well and shipped halfway around the world, it to would leave a lot to be desired.
