What is the best pest DIY control product?

Ive got these annoying rats in my house and ive called council who did some inspection and left poison. Those bastards charged me £75 for it. It seemed to work for a while but they r back again. Ive used the glue mats and must have killed a dozen and blocked all the possible holes but they keep coming through kitchen. So what should I do?? Is there any good company anyone knows of or what DIY product is the most effective?

1. You need to find the places they are getting in: spaces in the foundation, gaps between house and foundation, vents, gaps around windows and doors. If you can't do this yourself, higher a carpenter to look your house over for you. The pest control companies aren't interested in pluging holes that limit future calls to them.
