What kind of pest control is safe with a bird in the house?
Is there such a thing as chemical free pest control? My house is due for a dousing but I don't want to kill the bird!!

- If you call your local pest control you should be able to have them come out and spray put you bird in someone eles house for 1 day and everything should be ok !!
- Combat! It comes in gel and baits and has a variety of bugs it kills. No odor, vapors, or filmy residue. Great for people who are allergic to pesticides, like me. Just be sure to put it where kids and pets can't get to them!
- They do make natural pesticides now that use pyrthrins (spelling?) which are plant based. I use a plug in device that keeps the insects away called a Pest Contro by emitting an electronic field in the walls where the little critters hide. If in doubt, remove your bird from the house for a couple of days if traditional sprays are to be used. Have a tweet year
- I was forced to flea bomb my place. I kept my birds out of the house for a week. Then I cleaned everything, including the carpet and walls before they came home. What kind of pests are you trying to get rid of? Borox will help to control fleas in the carpet, but I would still have the birds out of the house for at least 24 hours during application.
- Ultrasonic!!!!! I use the brand Verminix...well I used to. I kept one plugged into a wall outlet of everyroom in the house. It is a problem if you have hamsters/ mice/ gerbils/ guinea pigs/ maybe even rabbits, and all manner of spiders and insects. I think the poison pesticide companies pay the ultrasonic pest companies money to not advertise or something because I don't know why everyone just doesn't go to ultrasonic that doesn't have a rodent...or special dietary need pets. People can't hear the untrasonic waves, but it sounds like a jackhammer to an insect. I learned about these ultrasonic things when I rented a basement apartment that had TONS of centipedes and I didn't like the idea of poison in my living space. I watched a beattle crawl out from under a piece of molding in this apartment and then it stopped...it's antennae started twitching(it looked like it was in pain) then it ran faster until it crawled under the front door and outside. These ultrasonic things cycle through a range of frequency that irritate insects with all kinds of different antennae lengths...I actually think they make some that are insect only. Unfortunately I have Chinese Water Dragons which eat crickets...No sense torturing the crickets while they are on death row prior to sentencing them to the dragons right? Hope this helps!
- NO... NO... NO! A bird can NOT go into a house after being sprayed. You must wait at least five hours. Plus a one hour air out of the room. This goes the same for small animals.
- Take the birds out to another location for three days after fumigating. Do not let them fly free if using poison bait or glue traps. If you only put localized traps or poisons and don't let the birds out of the cage, and the cage is kept away from the area where mice run around, you might be safe.
