Termite control. Centracon baiting system vs liquid sprays?

I have a new house and the 1 year contract that the developer gave us with the house is about up. I need to pick a new service and a new service provider. Clark Howard recommend "All Good" Pest Control. Recommendations?

  1. The baiting systems are not proven to be effective. For one, there is no effective "bait" that attracts them except for wood. Secondly, termites have very erratic foraging patterns and are likely to miss. Up until now, labels prohibited application of termiticides unless evidence of infestation. However, there are is a recent encouraging development. First, non-repellants are the way to go. (Premise or Termidor) I personally feel just as confident using the imidachlropid (Premise). The new development is in the form of Premise Granules. It is labeled for both prevention and as an aid to treatment. It has been proven effective, and creates a barrier, provided that your foundation is not totally surrounded by driveways or concrete sidewalks, etc. We have recently begun using this product for all our annual contract customers (renewals). As per finding a compay, just use your judgement. I dont agree with everything Clark Howard says in regards to termite protection. Many of the "damage contracts" are not worth the paper they are written on. What I do is provide reasonable annual protection for my customers and provide treatment if necessary. I think what got Clark Howard going on this debate is the truthful fact that a lot of companies do not provide the proper level of treatment or protection. Ask a lot of questions. If you feel the applicator does not have a good understanding of the label, then his treatment is probably worthless. Good luck with your choice, and I hope this helps!
